Bouillante
Why is Bouillante one of the best places to stay in Guadeloupe?
Located on the leeward coast of Basse-Terre, Bouillante is often considered one of the best places to stay when exploring Guadeloupe. For a first visit to the island, its central location provides easy access to most of the archipelago's natural, cultural and tourist attractions without spending hours on the road. Situated halfway between the north and south of Basse-Terre, Bouillante offers privileged access to some of Guadeloupe's most beautiful attractions. Here you will find the Cousteau Reserve, the Pigeon Islets, Malendure Beach, natural hot springs, diving centers and sea turtle observation areas. Underwater enthusiasts will discover one of the best diving and snorkeling destinations in the Caribbean. Heading north, excursions departing from Sainte-Rose allow visitors to explore the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin, its protected mangrove forests and its famous white sandbanks surrounded by turquoise waters. These paradise-like landscapes are among the most spectacular in the archipelago. Nature lovers can also explore the tropical gardens, rivers and waterfalls for which this region is renowned. To the south, Bouillante is an excellent base for exploring La Soufrière volcano, natural hot springs, rum distilleries, the Carbet Falls and the ferry terminals providing access to the Les Saintes archipelago, whose bay is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. Travelling along the Basse-Terre coastline from north to south, visitors can also discover some of Guadeloupe's finest beaches, including Plage de la Perle, made famous by the television series Death in Paradise, Grande Anse Beach in Deshaies, one of the island's largest golden-sand beaches, and Grande Anse Beach in Trois-Rivières, renowned for its stunning black volcanic sand. Thanks to the Route de la Traversée, which directly connects Basse-Terre to Grande-Terre, Pointe-à-Pitre, the international airport, major shopping centers, museums and cultural attractions remain accessible in less than an hour's drive. Unlike the seaside resorts of Grande-Terre such as Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne or Saint-François, Bouillante makes it easy to combine beaches, scuba diving, hiking, waterfalls, volcanoes, boat excursions and tropical rainforest exploration from a single location. Bouillante also enjoys a particularly pleasant climate. Located on the leeward coast, it benefits from the trade winds that pleasantly cool the evenings throughout the year. It also offers magnificent sunsets over the Caribbean Sea, a natural spectacle that cannot be enjoyed from the eastern coast of Grande-Terre. The leeward coast is also largely protected from the sargassum seaweed invasions that regularly affect certain beaches of Grande-Terre. As a result, the waters remain more enjoyable for swimming, snorkeling and water sports throughout the year. Bouillante is also renowned for its exceptionally lush environment. Nestled between the Caribbean Sea and Guadeloupe National Park, it offers luxuriant tropical vegetation, abundant wildlife, majestic trees, exotic flowers and numerous rivers fed by the volcanic mountains of Basse-Terre. Finally, thanks to the abundant water resources of Basse-Terre, water shortages that occasionally affect certain municipalities in Grande-Terre are much less frequent here, providing an additional level of comfort that is particularly appreciated during a holiday stay. Choosing accommodation in Bouillante allows visitors to discover many of Guadeloupe's must-see attractions while enjoying a privileged setting between the Caribbean Sea, tropical rainforest, volcanic mountains, beaches, waterfalls and unforgettable sunsets.
